Hemavathy Guha received her fine art education from the college of arts and crafts, Chennai,India. She has held eighteen one woman and two persons exhibitions in several parts of India and also participated in several National and International exhibitions of prestige. Important among them are the National Exhibitions of art, Lalit Kala Akademi, Annual exhibitions of AIFACS, Sahityakala Parishad exhibitions and several privately organized exhibitions. At international level, she has participated in the 20th international biennale of graphic art, Slovenia, International biennale of graphic art, Bitola, International biennale of graphic art, Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal.and Small engravings saloon,Romania
She has received Vadhera art gallery’s first Young artists award,Junior Fellowship from the Ministry Of human resource and development,Govt.of India, in 1997-99 in the field of printmaking and Senior fellowship in Painting for 2008-2010. She was invited to hold a solo exhibition of her works in Florean Museum,Romania in 2001 and was awarded Visiting artists in residency at St.Micheals, printshop, Canada in 2004.In 2007,she participated in the Indian printmakers exhibition at Frank Museum,U.S.and also a women artists exhibition curated by Anjoli Ela Menon in 2008.Her works are in the collection of Lalit kala Akademi, New Delhi , NGMA, New Delhi and international print Museums in Poland,Slovenia,and Emami Chisel,Kolkatta. She is also the recipient of All India award by AIFACS for best painting,2010 and in 2014.Currently she is engaged in working in printmaking, mixed media works using domestic elements like needle and thread,paper, and recycled items, painting and also making short video films which have been exhibited widely. She has also been involved in many community art projects since 2008,working with different communities like ‘migrants’, construction workers,landless urban farmers and currently working with transgenders. |
